you're green!
Floor Time
/flôr tīm/
noun
the 15-60 minute time period spent laying on the floor in the middle of the work day, typically as a relief from the soul-sucking reality of corporate America.
Spring is springing and at long last it feels right to frolic again!! We’re thawing, which means I:
Swapped my winter wear for my spring wear
Bought peony tulips for the house
Did some goal-setting for Q2
Vacuum every day because Klaus is in his molting era
Have done a spring haul for groceries (PSA they sell little gems at Trader Joe’s now!?)
With all of us eager to fully be in spring mode, (especially here in NYC where the weather has been more indecisive than me and Eli trying to decide if we want wine or cocktails on a Friday night), I thought I would help set the mood with the spring moments every girlie should strive for in the next couple months. I also realized that all of these things involve something green, so here’s a themed list for your entertainment.
5 Green Things To Embrace this Spring
Ramps
For those who don’t know, it’s ramps season, baybee!! And every spring I go on a ramp-age1 to get a hold of these leafy cousins of the leek. We fell in love at Dr. Clark’s back in 2021. I remember taking my first bite into this wondrous veggie and thinking, oh my god what is this beautemous thing I must have more. If you’re as excited about spring produce as I am, head to your local farmer’s market this weekend and try to get your hands on some of these before the very short season ends. I’ll be at the McCarren Park farmer’s market digging for the best ramps to make this whipped ramp butter to accompany my She Wolf bread.
Oz
We all must prepare for Wicked Part One premiering at the end of this year2, and there are currently two Wizard of Oz-based musicals on Broadway. You know about Wicked, of course, but this week the revival of The Wiz opened! I won the Lucky Seat lottery and got seated in row A—reeeally close to the action. The music has been around since the 70s so we already knew that was gonna hit—but the costumes, the set, and the cast made this a revival worth prioritizing. It’s the first time in a while that I’ve seen a show where every single principal (and every ensemble member for that matter) is a STELLAR singer. The runs, the harmonies, everything about this show screams excellence and I had the most delightful time. Full IG review below lol.
Spring Pasta
Yes, another bullet point about food because like I said, there’s nothing quite like spring produce. Last week I tried this Crowded Kitchen Creamy Burrata Pea Pasta recipe (it wasn’t that creamy—for those like me who hear “creamy” and get turned off). It was hands down one of the best pastas I’ve ever made at home (the other being this ziti alla zozzona I made this week that changed my brain chemistry). One of the big reasons I love ramps season is because I am a leeks enthusiast as well, and this pasta showcases them in spades. If you’re looking for an elevated at-home pasta, this is the one.
Governor’s Island
I played hooky on Tuesday morning to belatedly redeem an anniversary present I got last year from Andrew: I ventured to Governor’s Island for the first time to visit QC Spa. You may have seen this spa on all the girlies’ TikToks, and it lived up to the hype. The spa spans three restored army barrack buildings, so unlike the modern feel of SoJo, QC is quaint and cottage-like. The outdoor space is the true selling point, with their pools overlooking the southern tip of Manhattan and the East River. Sadly it was a quick visit (because work, bleh) but taking the ferry reiterated how much I want to spend the day on the island this spring, biking around and maybe grabbing an oyster or two by the water.
Tennis-core
After months of agonizing anticipation, we’ve finally reached premiere week for Challengers, and Zendaya and Law Roach have been absolutely serving on every red carpet. While I had already planned to rock my skort and visor to my local Regal, Law’s call to action makes me even more excited for this movie-going experience3. So yes, I will be sporting tennis ball green to the event (perhaps even shoving some into my stilettos) and I hope you do too for the film of the spring!!
Something I Thought of in the Shower
Jesse McCartney wrote Bleeding Love and we don’t acknowledge that enough
Something Pretty
Unfiltered signs of a thawing New York City at golden hour.
Something To Laugh About
Somehow between an insanely busy work/school week and binging season 2 of Heartbreak High, I still found time to scroll. Here are this week’s gems:
I’m not saying I’m unwell, but I’m also not not saying that. This is what to look out for.
I finally accepted my fate and jumped on the Chap*** R*** train—like maaaybe to this degree.
This is a girl after my own heart.
What inspired the shower thought, because this will always be a banger.
Oop this is being anywhere in public with me, soz.
Not sure what I was expecting but it wasn’t this.
Something for Clarice
Hey! This newsletter is free and I intend to keep it that way. That said, if you love it and want to show your appreciation, buy me a coffee :)
By the way…I’m reading this.
After a long hold at the library, I finally got my hands on the new Dolly Alderton—very excited to get into this one.
Happy TPD album release day to all who celebrate. I really didn’t have the capacity to keep tabs on this one (nor have I had time to listen yet), so someone please explain to me the significance of the “2”, please and thanks!!
Til’ next time, Greenies. Your friend,
Clarice
